2nd SATURDAY WORKSHOP
Addiction, Shame, and Money: The Ties that Bind
Presented by Carol Colhoun, LCSW, LCDC
WHEN: Saturday, February 9, 2008, 10:00 AM - 12:00 Noon
COST: FREE
WHERE: Austin Recovery, 8402 Cross Park Drive, Austin, TX 78754
We live in an addictive society. We are encouraged in the media every day to live in excess: shop addictively, eat addictively, etc.
If we are born with the genetic predisposition for addiction, we are prepared biologically to engage in addictive behaviors. If we grow up in
families of addicts/and/or alcoholics, these behaviors are role modeled for us. Once we get into recovery from addiction to substances, we are
at risk for “cross-addicting” to another addiction, e.g. compulsive eating, love and sex addiction, compulsive spending and debiting, and chronic
underearning.
In this workshop we will learn about:
· The different types of compulsive financial behaviors
· The attitudes and beliefs underlying these compulsions
· How to heal and grow past the family of origin issues that are the root causes
· Resources for recovery from debiting, compulsive spending and chronic underearning
Registration is not required.
